Scary moments at local Batman movie:

It was a very scary moment for moviegoers in San Jose on Monday night. A packed theatre was in the middle of the new Batman movie when someone opened the side door to the theatre, yelled an expletive and tossed some sort of mystery package into the theatre. People that were in the theatre watching the movie said they were literally so frightened that they couldn't move. They said they stood there like deer in the headlights. The bomb squad was called and the package turned out to be harmless. A theater employee stated the box was the same kind used at the theatres to package plastic trash bags. There is no suspect at this time.

Apple numbers sag in last quarter:

Apple says its growth slowed in the most recent quarter, disappointing investors who thought its progress was unstoppable. In both revenue and net income, Apple  posted the smallest increases in years for the April to June period, failing to meet analyst expectations. Apple sold 26 million iPhones in the quarter which is at the low end of expectations. It sold 17 million iPads, beating forecasts. On a semi-related note, Apple will release its new operating system for Mac computers today. It's called Mountain Lion and it narrows the gap between the PC and phone software packages, making Mac personal computers work more like iPhones and iPads.

Bridge toll hikes likely:

It is very feasible that we could see bridge tolls rise again here in the Bay Area soon. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission said bridge toll hikes combined with a rise in San Francisco sales taxes could help offset the $650 million dollar price tag that will allow a high-speed rail tunnel connecting the Caltrain station at 4th and King streets in San Francisco to the new Transbay Terminal in downtown San Francisco. Critics who are against the high speed rail line have redoubled their efforts to derail the project  that could eventually link Los Angeles and San Francisco with trains traveling up to 220 mph.

Good Samaritan story:

And now for a warm and fuzzy story….talk about a good Samaritan story….A disabled man named Patrick Connelly was attending a concert for country music superstar Blake Shelton the other night and didn’t realize the show was standing room only. Unfortunately Patrick is confined to a wheelchair and because it’s standing room only, he couldn’t use his wheelchair. 2 random concertgoers lifted Patrick up and held him for over 30 minutes in the 100 degree heat in the front row just so Patrick could enjoy it! Then, Blake Shelton, who was performing, invited Patrick and his family backstage! The 2 men that held Patrick disappeared before his family got a chance to say “Thank you”.

North Carolina woman buys $10 painting at Goodwill that ends up being worth $15k:

A North Carolina artist was shopping at her local Goodwill store the other day and found 2 two large abstract paintings selling for $10 that she really liked. So she bought them and went home and did a Google search on the artists name. The artist, Ilya Bolotowsky is apparently a very well-established 20th century painter. The woman then called Sotheby's and they said they would auction the paintings off for an estimated price of $20,000!  So this lucky womans $10 find just tured into $20,000!
